"AL-Eti'daal" Weekly Article - Issue. 01
22 Ramadhaan 1433 / 11 August 2012
Every single act of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and his illustious Sahabah (Radiallah anhum) are registered and preserved in writing through the wonderful services of the scholars of Ahaadeeth.

Compare the actions of this Ummah today with the Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). You will come to the conclusion that deliberately, insolently practically every Sunnah is being discarded. That is not all.

The Sunnat is being purposely attacked and vehemently opposed. And those who invite towards it are being called ignorant fools as far as the religion is concerned.
Is there no limit to this tremendous wrong and injustice?

If such is the position, what right have Muslims to complain about their present distress? What right have they got for this clamour and outcry in their speeches and writings that Muslims are facing ruin and destruction?

Persian couplet:
“That which we face is of our own doing
No remedy is there for what we cause ourselves (to suffer).”

In the clearest terms Allah Ta‟aala says:
“Whatever misfortune befalls you is because of what your own hands had earned. And Allah pardons much. And you will not be able to escape in the earth, for; save Allah you shall have no protector or helper.”

Allah Ta‟aala states further:
“Corruption prevails over land and sea for that evil which the hands of men had caused; that He may make them taste part of that which they had done, in order that they may return.” (30. 41)

Similar themes are expounded in the Quran not in only one or two places but are stated in numerous places.

Regarding the first of the two verses quoted above, Sayyidina Ali (Radiallahu anhu) says: “Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said to me:
“I shall explain to you the meaning of this verse. 0‟ Ali! Whatever misfortune befalls you -whether sickness, or any form of torment or any worldly calamity -is because of what your hands had earned.‟

Sayyidina Imam Hasan (Radiallahu anhu) says: “When this verse was revealed, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “I swear by Him in whose Hands is my life, whatever befalls you, whether it be the scratch of a stick, the throbbing of a vein, the stumble of the feet, or to be struck by a stone is because of some sin on your part.‟

Sayyidina Abu Moosa (Radiallahu anhu) says: “Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: When a servant of Allah suffers any injury or anything less than that befalls him, it shall be because of his own actions.”

Sayyidina Imran bin Haseen (Radiallahu anhu) once suffered from some illness somewhere in his body. People came to visit the patient and expressed sorrow on his behalf. He said: “Why do you express sorrow and regret? This which befell me is a result of some sinful act.”

Sayyidina Dahhaak (Radiallahu anhu) says: “When a person forgets the Quran after having put it to memory, it is a result of some sins committed by him.” Having said this he recited this verse (quoted above) and continued: “What greater calamity can there be than forgetting the Quran?”

When Sayyida Asma (Radiallahu anha), daughter of Sayyidina Abu Bakr (Radiallahu anhu), had a headache, she placed her hand on her head and said: “This befalls me because of my sins.” (Durr Manthoor, Ibn Kathir)

Happenings
Our condolences go out to Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Dudhaat Sahib and his family on the tragic demise of their nephew Muhammad Fayaaz Kazi (27).

He was martyred early on Tuesday morning after an argument broke out when he was mocked for adorning his face with a sunnah beard.

Hazrat Moulana Shabbier Ahmed Saloojee Sahib described the death of Fayaaz as that of a shaheed.

“We know that it is very important for us to uphold every sunnat of Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasalaam) and unfortunately sometimes we meet different challenges in upholding it.” ...

“Tonight we have the mayyit (funeral) of this shaheed in this blessed month of Ramadan for the sake of the beard of Rasulullah (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasalaam)…

The Noble Quran also tells us with regards to the martyrs that, Bal Ahyah, they are alive in the court of Allah Ta’ala and this is just a crossing from this world into the next world.”

Qari Ayyub Ishaq Sahib had the following words of advice:

“While we are all really saddened by the martyrdom of our brother, Fayyaz Kazi, there is no reason to be provocative and ask for trouble. Let the law take its course.

To call on people to 'descend' on a hostile environment which could result in more bloodshed, God forbid, is irresponsible, knowing well this would inevitably lead to people being overcome by emotion & resorting to violence, perpetuating the myth that we are a barbaric bloodthirsty nation.

Please desist from any encouragement toward this. When faced with Islamophobic remarks or gestures and you are a weak minority, remember Ta'if and walk away.  We are essentially a stateless people not very much different from the Muslims minorities across the globe.  This is not to say 'turn the other cheek', but rather remain calm & sensible and work within the law.

As Muslims, we should respond to situations with wisdom and foresight and not react with emotion, rage and anger. We should ensure that the police do their jobs and investigate this incident, arrest the perpetrators and let the law take its course.

How did our beloved Prophet (SAW) react when he was insulted, stoned and his shoes soaked in blood at Taif? He prayed for guidance for his tormentors. A lesson for us all to learn.

This Ummah will be tried from time to time in various ways, as decreed by Allah Ta'ala. This is a price we will have to pay for Jannah.

"Do you imagine that you will enter Jannah while yet there has not come upon you the like of what came upon those who passed before you? ..."

(Baqarah, V.214)

"We shall surely test you with some amount of fear and hunger and loss in wealth and lives and fruits; and give glad tidings to those who persevere. Who when afflicted by calamities say, 'Surely we are Allah's and surely to Him we shall return."

(Baqarah, V.155/156).”

May Allah grant the Marhoom Jannatul Firdose and grant the bereaved family comfort and patience.  Aameen.
