QUESTION:

Is it permissible for a Muslim doctor to sterilize a patient temporarily and permanently?

ANSWER:

Under normal circumstances temporary or permanent sterilization is totally impermissible. However under dire circumstances, with the consultation of an experienced Muslim doctor, there could be room for permissibility when there is a fear of great danger to the mother or the baby. والله أعلم
