Question: What is the rule regarding a Ḥafiẓ who recites very fast and does not always implement the rules of Tajwīd, even though his Makhārij is good?

باسمه تعالى

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Answer:

After perusing various books on Islamic Jurisprudence, one is compelled to concur that the recitation of the Quran with Tajwīd is of utmost importance. Sometimes due to the omission of Tajwīd, a person’s Ṣalh is rendered null and void. Therefore, if a person is unable to recite the Qur’ān with Tajwīd, then in the interest of all the congregants, it would be best for him to refrain from leading the Ṣalāh. On the other hand, if a person knows, understands and is able to implement the laws of Tajwīd, but due to negligence or hastiness, he omits the laws of Tajwīd then it would not be correct to follow him in Ṣalāh. Intentionally discarding the laws of Tajwīd is a very grave sin. May Allah give us all the ability to recite the Qur’ān in a manner that pleases Him. ‘Aāmīn.
