Prior to migrating to South Africa in 1979, he undertook two special trips. One was to meet Moulana Maseehullah Sahib R.A. in Jalalabad and the other to meet Hazrat Sheikh Zakariyya (R.A.) in Saharanpur to take their duas.
Upon his arrival in South Africa, he resided for a while with family in Laudium, Pretoria. He did a stint of Imaamat in Newtown, Johannesburg whilst Ml Shabbier Saloojee Sahib had gone to Stanger to meet Hazrat Sheikh Zakariyya R.A. whilst he sat for Itikaaf there. Hafiz Sahib also had the opportunity of meeting Hazrat Sheikh during his stay in Johannesburg.
He then came to Lenasia and did Imaamat at Masjid Noor for 5 years. He also taught in the LMA Maktab during this period.
One night Qari Abdul Hameed Sahib R.A attended the Magrib Salaah at Masjid Noor and asked Hafiz Sahib to come to Darul Uloom Zakariyya to teach. He started teaching in 1984 and use to travel daily from Lenasia. He would voluntarily come in the evenings to teach the students naazarah of their new lessons.
He took Bayah at the hands of Mufti Mahmood Sahib (R.A.) and travelled regularly to Palmridge to sit in Mufti Sahebs company whilst he was there.
More than 60 students have completed their Hifz under him over the years, notable amongst them being: Moulana Bahir Evans and Qari Saleh Peck.
Some sterling advices of Hafiz Sahib are the following:
Respect of Parents – Hafiz Sahib's father passed away almost 20 years ago. Whilst he was alive, he would visit him every year, and after his demise he continued visiting his mother during the Ramadan vacation and stayed with her at home without leaving her side.
Respect of Asatiza – including school teachers, and non Muslim teaches as well. He would make a point of visiting his asatiza and take their duas.
Khidmah of Asatiza – even their families during their absence and after their demise also.
Remember your old days - Your beginnings are important and keep you grounded, so that you are grateful for what you have and do not develop pride.
Hafiz Sahib has headed the Hifz Class for many years and has great concern for the students. He regards the students as an amanat and tries his utmost to make them excel. Hafiz Sahib has taught with such dedication that it has been noted that for many years he would not return home for breakfast after the Fajr class. His punctuality is to be admired and is of such a nature that even during extreme illness he is seen teaching. He would even be seen on many occasions after the Magrib salaah giving new lessons to the students. At times, he would listen to the entire Khatam of the Qur'an in one sitting or during one night. All this is done voluntarily (fi Sabilillah). His desire is for his efforts to remain unknown and remarks that “the one for whom I’m doing it for, knows my actions and intentions.”
It is remarkable to note that Hafiz Sahib has maintained records of the hifz class since 1985.This includes class exam marks, manzil records, certificate records as well as a ledger book which has the names of all the Hifz graduates, their Ustaads names, year of completion, contact details etc...
Hafiz Sahib has 6 brothers, 2 sisters and one Son. We make dua that Allah Ta’ala grants him good health and keep his shadow above us for a long time to come. Aameen.
