Question:

A man issued a written divorce to his wife. She was aware of the divorce, but received the letter after a period of time. When will the ‘Iddah (waiting period) begin, upon receiving news of the divorce, or after reading the letter?

 

Answer:

The ‘Iddah (waiting period) starts upon issue of the divorce, and not after reading the letter.
