QUESTION: Can an abortion take place if a woman has been raped?

Answer: Abortion in Islam is permissible only when there is an extreme need and on condition that the procedure is done before four months of the pregnancy has passed.  As your question is regarding a case of sexual assault, Islam would regard it as a valid reason to have this procedure done.

The above mentioned Fatwā has been derived from the following authentic books.

Fatāwā Bazzāziyyah Vol. 6 Pg. 370

Al Raddul Muḥtār Vol. 6 Pg. 751
